One of the founders of Latvian national professional fine arts, Janis RozentÄls (1866–1916) and his wife, the Finnish singer Elli Forssell (1871–1943) lived in Apartment No. 9 at Alberta iela 12, from 1904 until 1915. The building is one of the most significant Art Nouveau architectural monuments in RÄ«ga, and was built in 1903 to the design of architects K. PÄ“kÅ¡Ä“ns and E. Laube.
Famous Latvian writer RÅ«dolfs Blaumanis (1863–1908) – J. RozentÄls’ friend and confederate, periodically lived in the apartment as a lodger from 1906 until 1908. There is a R. Blaumanis memorial room set up at the Museum.
